Staff Sergeant Joseph P. Goodrich |
|
Marine Staff Sergeant
Joseph P. Goodrich, 32, of Pittsburgh's Westwood neighborhood
lost his life in combat with the enemy in Hit, Iraq on Sunday July
10, 2005. |
|
Joseph was a
second-generation Marine. His father, James Goodrich served
with the Marines in the South Pacific during World War II. |
|
His wife, Amy
Goodrich, said that "The Marines were his family, and he was proud
to be a Marine". |
|
Amy and Joseph were married for 6 1/2
years. |
|
In a letter that Joseph wrote to Amy, he
tried to offer up an explanation as to why he was a Marine by
looking back to his childhood visits to the graves of veterans.
He said, "looking at all the headstones with flags in front of them,
I started to think about who they were, how they lived, how they
died, and what they did for me". |
|
His memory will remain
forever. |
